THE NORTH WEST GUITAR SHOW 2014Now in its 18th year, the UK’s longest established guitar show, the North West Guitar Show, returns to its most popular venue yet at Haydock Park Racecourse Exhibition Centre on Sunday 18th May 2014 from 10am to 4.30pm.
Building on record attendances and sales in 2013,
this year’s show will be the biggest yet with dozens of dealers and exhibitors
with product to sell. The
The show is a unique opportunity to buy, sell and trade new, vintage and second hand guitars, amps, effects and accessories and also features live music, workshops and demos all day.
Northern Guitar Shows Ltd are delighted to announce that their North West Guitar Show on Sunday 18th May will feature an appearance by guitarist, collector, historian and writer, Phil Harris, with two of the most iconic guitars in the world - the sunburst 1959 Gibson Les Paul previously owned by Peter Green and Gary Moore AND the 1959 Les Paul owned by Paul Kossoff of legendary 60's blues/rock pioneers, Free.
Phil Harris will be on the main stage playing the guitars with a band and talking about the guitars' history and details.
Sunburst '59 'Bursts without any famous player connection are extremely rare and valuable; good examples can fetch astronomical amounts of money. However, due to their connection with these major guitarists, these particular examples are almost priceless.
Joe Bonamassa was recently delighted to use the Peter Green guitar for a performance at The Royal Albert Hall. Phil Harris confirms that the outing at the North West Guitar Show is likely to be the only time the guitar will be out in public in the foreseeable future.
The Green/Moore guitar has been used on many classic recordings including Man of the World, Need Your Love So Bad and Black Magic Woman by Peter Green with Fleetwood Mac and Parisienne Walkways, Pretty Woman and Still Got the Blues by Gary Moore. It has a distinctive sound, unlike a regular Les Paul, due to a happy accident when the neck pickup was repaired incorrectly and then installed the wrong way round!

Also playing will be Roger's Floyd, a sensational tribute to Pink Floyd, and virtuoso shredder Gav Coulson with Vintage and Fret-King guitars as well as acoustic duo, Raunchy Biscuits representing Auden Guitars and Sound Affects Music plus ace session guitarist, Neil Mellor, with DWJ Boutique Pedals.

We can also now announce that the Musicians' Union is sponsoring workshops at the Show featuring jazz guitarist and teacher, Kathy Dyson.
The format of the workshops is shown below.
Bring your guitar and attend any one or all of the sessions. Admission to the workshops is free (after you have paid your admission to the guitar show) but space is limited, on a first-come first-served basis.
Guitar Fundamentals 1 Starts at 10.30am
This workshop is intended for players of all genres to improve their technique and knowledge of the guitar. It is also a good preparation for the jazz guitar workshop. It will provide an introduction to:
- Tuning, Posture and Preparation to Play
- Basic Left and Right-Hand Technique
- Learning to Listen Deeply
- Ear and Rhythm Training
- Beginners Fretboard Knowledge
- Major Scales and Intervals
Guitar Fundamentals 2 Starts at 12 noon
This workshop is for intermediate players of all genres who would like to learn more! It will focus on:
- Deep Listening and Transcription
- Ear Training for Guitarists
- Scales, Arpeggios and Intervals for Improvisation- Using Rhythmic Ideas in Improvisation
Jazz Guitar Workshop 1 Starts at 1.30pm
This workshop is for guitarists new to jazz who want to know more. It will provide an introduction to:
- Jazz Chords and Harmony
- Using Intervals in Improvisation
- Learning Repertoire by Ear
Jazz Guitar Workshop 2 Starts at 3.00pm
This workshop is for intermediate guitarists to find out more about jazz guitar. It will focus on:
- Basic transcription
- Functional Harmony
- Using Scales, Arpeggios and Intervals Creatively
- Developing Rhythmic Ideas
